Student Voices in Media 2010
This youth development program is a flagship of
the National Hispanic Press Foundation. The one-day hands-on
journalism training is held during the NAHP Annual Convention and
Business Expo. The first class team of the NHPF, the NAHP, local
NAHP member publications, a local university (faculty and staff) and
local Hispanic business leaders collaborate to develop the program
from the application, student selection, program and day-of training
that culminates in a publication created by the participants. Area
high school, community college and university students are selected
for education exploration on the importance of Hispanic publications
in communicating the messages and achievements of Latino
communities. They learn the different facets of producing a
publication and also learn about sales and marketing of a
publication by NAHP members, professors and area experts. Students
actively participate in editorial planning, writing, photography,
design and layout of the publication. A local NAHP member
publication prints the finished Student Voices in Media
publication which is posted in the NAHP website until the next
